Manila Water building Laguna Lake water treatment plant to serve more Rizal towns
Manila Water is currently building the East Bay Water Treatment Plant (WTP) that will draw water from the eastern part of Laguna Lake, considered the cleanest portion of the lake. The East Bay WTP is part of the East Bay Water Supply System Project that seeks to expand Manila Water's services to more towns in Rizal. The Php 2.7B WTP project includes an eight-million-liter (8 ML) capacity reservoir, an intake structure, pumping station, and Water Treatment plant using Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system, multi-media and granular activated carbon (GAC) filters as well as Reverse Osmosis system. Construction is expected to be completed by April 2023, which will be followed by testing and process proving. Once operational, the Phase 1 East Bay WTP is designed to provide 50 million liters per day of treated water to 390,000 individuals in the municipalities of Jala-Jala, Pililla, Baras, Cardona, Morong, and Binangonan.
MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water is currently building the East Bay Water Treatment Plant (WTP) that will draw water from the eastern part of Laguna Lake to fulfill its commitment of providing quality water supply service to the underserved areas in the east zone.
The East Bay WTP is part of the East Bay Water Supply System Project that seeks to expand Manila Water's services to more towns in the province of Rizal.
"Components of the Php 2.7B WTP project include an eight-million-liter (8 ML) capacity reservoir, an intake structure, pumping station, and water treatment plant using Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system, multi-media and granular activated carbon (GAC) filters as well as reverse osmosis system," Manila Water Senior Project Manager Byder Nangit shared.
Manila Water's Project Management Group (PMG) acknowledges that a project as massive as this requires the cooperation and buy-in of key stakeholders to be completed and operational as scheduled.
"Manila Water has been regularly coordinating with the relevant local government units and the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) to ensure that the project complies with all necessary laws and regulations and is implemented upholding strict safety protocols," Manila Water PMG Stakeholder Engagement Department head Badet Del Rosario added.
Construction is expected to be completed by April 2023, which will be followed by testing and process proving.
Once operational, Phase 1 of the East Bay WTP is designed to provide 50 million liters per day of treated water to 390,000 individuals in the towns of Jala-Jala, Pililla, Baras, Cardona, Morong, and Binangonan.
To complement the WTP, two (2) submarine pipe-laying projects are also currently being undertaken.
One pipe system connecting Morong to Cardona is 50% complete, while another HDPE pipe system connecting Pililla to Morong has started.
These submarine transmission lines will convey treated water from the WTP to the distribution system to safely reach customers once the facilities begin operations.
